Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done and proclaim that his name is exalted.

Isaiah 12:4 (NIV)

Today's Verse

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.

Psalm 33:12 (NIV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

What is the god of our culture and our nation? Certainly our God is the LORD, Yahweh, King of Israel and Redeemer of the lost. He is King of all nations. But he is not necessarily God of our nation. We are far from "one nation under God." But we can pray for revival to sweep our land. We can repent for not placing him first in our own lives. He has promised to respond if we will humble ourselves and seek him. Let's do that beginning today!

My Prayer...

LORD, God of the heavens and Father of all nations, I humble myself before you today, acknowledging my own sin and the sin of my people. I pray that you will revive us by the power of your Word and the sanctifying power of your Spirit. Bring renewal and revival to our land. In the name of Jesus and by the power of the Spirit I ask this. Amen.

Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.

Proverbs 14:34 (NIV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Wow, what an indictment. When we vote our pocketbook more than character and when we excuse the indiscretions, infidelities, and illegalities in the leaders of both political parties, we have reached a very sad state indeed! But before we rant and rave about the sad state of morality in our public officials, let's make sure we're honest in our own daily lives -- that we don't say cruel things about others, that we remain faithful to our marriages and our purity vows, and let's make sure that we expect of ourselves higher standards than we do of others.

New Spider-man announced!

And it ain't young Mr Hutcherson! Apparently they went with the most unknown of unknowns for this, click away my pretties. Updated with announcement pics...
Alex Billington over at Firstshowing has tweeted that Sony have revealed our new Spider-man, and its Andrew Garfield!

Alex confirmed to me that the news is indeed official, and its now as I type being reported by the trades. So, major turnaround there. Garfield's most mainstream role is probably in Terry Gilliam'sImaginarium Of Dr Pernassus. He also starred in Lions For Lambs.

Here are the highlights from the press release..

Director Marc Webb says..

“Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”

Commenting on the announcement, Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Matt Tolmach, President of Columbia Pictures said..

“Spider-Man is a classic superhero -- a young man who balances his responsibility to serve humanity and crush evil with the shyness and normalcy of someone struggling to find himself. The role demands an extraordinary actor. You need someone who can magically transform himself from Peter Parker into Spider-Man. An actor who will depict the vulnerability of youth and the strength and confidence of a legendary figure at the same moment. We have found that actor in Andrew Garfield. From the first time we saw him in the upcoming film The Social Network, to his glorious screen test, which floored all of us, we knew that we had found our new Peter Parker.”

Producer Avi Arad added,

“I’m incredibly excited about Andrew Garfield. In the Spider-Man tradition, we were looking for a smart, sensitive, and cool new Peter Parker who can inspire us and make us laugh, cry, and cheer. We believe we have found the perfect choice to take on this role and lead us into the future.”

Producer Laura Ziskin said,

“We are thrilled to have Andrew Garfield for this new incarnation of Spider-Man under Marc Webb’s direction. We were fortunate enough to meet with a group of fantastically talented young men. In the end, we all agreed that in addition to being an extraordinary actor, Andrew had the right mix of humor, youth, and pathos, along with an underlying sense of strength and power necessary to bring Peter Parker and Spider-Man to life on screen.”

So, what do you make of this? I have never seen the guy act but apparently he has some chops. I think he looks the part anyway..at least more so than Hutcherson.

Update: Sorry, I felt the need to add this. I just realized who this guy played in Red Riding. He was almost unrecognizable in a wig and sideburns!. But this dude has serious ability folks. If you want some type of gauge as to how good an actor he is, check out Channel 4's Red Riding trilogy online or on dvd.

Today's Verse

By the grace given me I say to everyone of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.

Today's Verse

The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O Lord, endures forever -- do not abandon the works of your hands.
— Psalm 138:8 (NIV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

God has a purpose and plan for each of our lives. The greatest thing we can do is to find that purpose and live it out. We can trust his purpose for us because it is based on his wisdom and love. As long as we seek his will, we're not going to do anything that can ultimately mess up his purpose for us. Yes, we may at times stray from the perfect channel he wants us to travel, but we never get totally out of the main channel. As long as we do not abandon him, and remember he will never forsake us, he will use us for his purposes.

My Prayer...

O Sovereign God, help me discern today what my life is intended to fulfill in your plan. Thank you for loving me and promising to walk beside me every step of my life. I live trusting that you will never forsake me and committed to never forsaking you. In the name of your faithful Son, Jesus, I pray. Amen.

I woke up with my wife beside me, tonight I'll be sleeping without her at my side.  I pray to God that I can endure 3 months not being able to kiss and embrace her.  Things are really starting to shake up in our lives.  I'm staying here in Cavite in the house of my Uncle, and Em and Pipay is back in Iloilo.  I know that we are doing this for our future.  In this time of physical separation I hope that we could grow more and have clearer understanding of where we want to go.  This is also a time to test how strong our relationship is with God and with each other.  I have faith that we will see this through.

Mahal I love you so much.  I'll be seeing you soon.  I had a great time staying at your parent's place.  Knowing more about you and your family.  I have a great respect for your family, and I'm truly grateful to them for letting me feel as part of the family.

Natutuwa rin ako sa lahat ng Kuya mo, kahit may kakulitan sa katawan at the end of the day magalang parin.

Pamilya din ni Keso makukulit rin, natatawa ako sa lahat ng kwento niya tungkol sa mga anak niya lalo na kay "Milky".

Masayang masaya ako na nakasama ko sila.  Mahal I appreciate you more because of them.  Alam ko na medyo mahirap na hindi tayo magkasama, pero alam ko naman na saglit lang ito at magkasama muli tayo.  See you soon I love you so much.

Changes

Sitting here in a 2nd floor room in Tondo tells me that things are starting to change in my life.  I am no longer in my comfort zone, I am in unfamiliar territory but I think this is good.  Its high time that I start shaking my life up a bit, and I guess I need to start living.

There are a lot of challenges ahead, one of those will be separated from my wife for the longest period of time.  I think this is the time that we have to find out how strong our relationship is, and a time to put our trust in the Lord.  We are doing for our own benefit, and our little sacrifice now will benefit us in the future.

Big changes...
Something is keeping me up. It's way past 2 a.m., It's the 2nd day of the new year of 2010. I can't peer forward the veil of the future. There is a lot of uncertainties on these new chapter of our lives. Most of it are new undertakings. It is a bit unnerving, but I am trying to steady my nerves, we never know what is going to happen, many factors are beyond our control and all we have is faith. Hopefully faith is enough.

This is life and the only thing we could do about it is live it. God bless us in 2010!
